Volunteers play a crucial role at Minda, offering their time and skills to enhance the lives of the people we support.

Carolyn is a shining example of the profound impact they make. Her "can-do" attitude is at the heart of everything she does, driving her to step up whenever needed—even at the last minute.

Whether it’s lending a hand with Christmas gift wrapping, playing the bagpipes for the people Minda supports, or doing small tasks, Carolyn embodies selflessness in everything she does.

Since becoming a volunteer with Minda in 2018, she has made a remarkable contribution to the organisation, bringing joy to everyone she meets.

Bagpipes are one of Carolyn’s many passions. The hobby has brought smiles and excitement to countless faces at Minda’s Brighton neighbourhood, something she cherishes deeply.

“Playing the bagpipes at Minda, whether on the lawns or during the MyPath Christmas Pageant, has been one of the most rewarding parts of volunteering at Minda,” she said.

“Seeing the joy, especially on Warwick’s face, when we play the bagpipes makes it all worth it. He is basically in the car park waiting before you arrive and perform.”

Carolyn's impact goes far beyond her musical talents. She is a mother, a role model, and an advocate for young women to follow their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face.

As a mother, she watches her own daughter excel in a male-dominated field, where hard work and intelligence don’t always lead to equal opportunities.

“Being female, you need to work hard just to be even with male peers,” Carolyn said. Despite these challenges, Carolyn believes that all women should keep striving to achieve their goals.

“There are so many incredible women in the world right now. The strides they make today will benefit the generations of tomorrow,” she said.

As International Women’s Day fast approaches, people around the world will celebrate the incredible achievements of women and raise awareness about important issues. But Carolyn is adamant that women should be celebrated every day.

“I don’t really think about the day, to be honest. I am a firm believer that you shouldn’t need a special day to be appreciated. Women should be appreciated every day,” Carolyn said.

Her perspective reminds us that gender equality is an ongoing commitment, not something to be confined to just one day a year.

Carolyn’s unwavering commitment, her heart for service, and the joy she spreads have made a positive and lasting impact on Minda and her community.

She is a true example of the difference an individual can make in the lives of others, and her contributions continue to inspire those around her.

As we celebrate the achievements of women, we recognise the importance of volunteers like Carolyn, who quietly shape the world for the better every single day.
