Being considered a great friend and a lovely person to be around is one of the highest compliments someone can receive—and for Wayne, it reflects how fully he has embraced life at Minda.
Since joining MyPath in November last year, Wayne has quickly become a popular and familiar face around Minda’s Brighton Neighbourhood—a place he now proudly calls home.
Before moving into his new SIL accommodation in April, Wayne spent several months admiring the vibrant, welcoming community around him through MyPath and the Social Club.
However, the dream of embedding himself into the Brighton Neighbourhood is now a reality, and he has wasted no time making friends with his roommates, who share his passion for footy.
The Port Adelaide Football Club tragic has made a positive impression on his housemate, Marty, who even invited Wayne to his birthday party last month.
“Living with my roommates is great. We all get along well, especially when it comes to footy. I look forward to getting to know them better over the next couple of months.”

Wayne loves his new place and has already made great friends with his roommates, who share his passion for footy.
Housemates aren’t the only people who enjoy Wayne’s presence; staff across MyPath and the Client Support Unit (CSU) often engage in meaningful conversations with the 40-year-old.
Filled with a sense of belonging and the confidence to follow his many passions, Wayne said his move has already been a great success, and he’s excited about what the future will bring.
“My new place is great. It has everything I need and being close to everything I need is a bonus. I’m excited for what’s to come,” he said.
Outside the four walls of his new home, Wayne likes to keep busy through various programs at MyPath, such as Swimming, Homestead, Little Cooking and Volunteering.
Importantly, many of these programs provide an opportunity for Wayne to build valuable life skills as well as engage with the wider community.
Through his participation in the Volunteering program, Wayne delivers food to people in need for the Meals on Wheels Hallett Cove branch, which fills him with a sense of "pride".
“Helping out at Meals on Wheels gives me pride to know I’m making a difference,” Wayne said.
Whether it’s the peace and joy of throwing a line in the ocean and catching fish, or experiencing real-time positive health outcomes through swimming, the 40-year-old is living his best life.
“One of my favourite things about MyPath is the people. I can take part in activities that align with my passions, while being around my friends—I think that is great."
Wayne’s journey is a powerful reminder of the impact that support, friendship, and personal growth can have on creating a life full of purpose and joy.
From learning through various programs to strengthening his relationships with peers and staff, every step Wayne takes is helping him build a more fulfilling and independent future.
Wayne’s experience at Minda has been positive, offering him not only the opportunity to pursue his passions but also the chance to acquire new skills that enhance his daily life.
With a deep sense of community and confidence that is continuously growing, Wayne is excited about the exciting new chapter in his life.
“Minda has supported me to follow my passions, learn new skills, and create great friendships. I’m really excited about the future and what lies ahead,” Wayne said.
