If it weren’t for an email being circulated at Schneider Electric calling for volunteers in 2021, Sarah Chann may not have heard of Minda.

But thanks to that email, Sarah, who is a project manager at the organisation, put her hand up to have a go at volunteering and do her part for the community.

And she is delighted she did because it has meant bringing smiles to those who Minda supports.

While Sarah has volunteered at the Christmas events in 2021 and 2022, and the Easter extravaganza this year, her goal for the coming months is to do more, whenever her busy working schedule permits.

Bringing cheer and putting smiles on faces brought a lot of comfort to them.

“At the Christmas event in my first year, I helped out at one of the rides and then last year I went early and helped set everything up,” she says.

“At Easter this year, I dressed up as the Easter Bunny and went around taking photos and giving hugs to clients. Bringing cheer and putting smiles on faces brought a lot of comfort to them.

“My goal this year is to try and help out more with whatever they need, and if I’m available, I’ll definitely help more.”

Sarah said volunteering at Minda has been very rewarding.

“Working with people with special needs puts smiles on their faces,” she says.

“I would encourage people, if they have the time, to give volunteering at Minda a go.

“What Minda does to put these events together and the inclusive work they do for people living with an intellectual disability is wonderful. The events are always fantastic.”

“I would encourage people, if they have the time, to give volunteering at Minda a go.

“Without its dedicated volunteers, Minda wouldn’t be able to host those events for the community. They allow people living with an intellectual disability to have fun and enjoy music and entertainment. It’s a great cause and to give back to the community makes it extra special and rewarding.

“Through my experience of volunteering, I’ve met new people and people from different backgrounds and cultures and different industries as well.”

Just like Sarah and Schneider Electric, other corporate groups can volunteer at Minda to give back to the community. Our volunteer specialist will work with your organisation to identify a project that suits your team and of course, is of great value to the people we support.
