Envirocare supported employee Luke has never been daunted by the size of any task, especially in his role of keeping Minda’s Brighton neighbourhood in pristine condition.
Luke commenced open employment at Hallett Cove School earlier this year and has quickly built meaningful relationships while enhancing various landscaping skills.
This opportunity came to fruition following positive discussions between Envirocare and the school, and it hasn’t taken long for Luke to make a strong impression.
No stranger to maintaining large sites, Luke has been performing various tasks across the 11-hectare school, which serves around 1,400 students.
The school’s Facilities Manager said Luke has been a fantastic addition to the school, showcasing a strong ability to problem-solve and work to a high standard.
“Since his first day at the school, Luke has been eager to learn and incredibly helpful.”
“With the size of the school, there’s always plenty to do, and having Luke on board has significantly lightened the load. His contributions have been invaluable.”
Luke currently works three days per week at the school, which totals 15 hours. Some of the key tasks he undertakes include garden maintenance and waste removal.
Someone who tends to let his actions do the talking, Luke has grown in confidence over the past few months and feels a great sense of pride in everything he does.
“The thing that impresses me the most about Luke is that he’s a very reliable and high-quality worker. I’ll set him a task, and I know he’ll get the job done,” The school’s Facilities Manager said.
“We have plenty to do at the school, and the fact he can work autonomously and to a high standard is fantastic to see. He knows what to do and where to go.”

Envirocare Manager Ivan Dargie said he wasn’t surprised to hear that Luke had transitioned well into open employment, with the school mentioning that they “couldn’t be happier.”
During his seven years at Envirocare, Luke has gained valuable skills in a real work setting receiving role-specific on the job training while also completing both the Certificate II and III in Horticulture through Minda’s SA Learning Centre.
Envirocare has long served as an excellent stepping stone, helping supported employees transition into open employment, and Ivan takes great pride in witnessing their success.
“We’ve seen individuals like Luke take the skills and confidence they develop here and move on to bigger opportunities in open employment. It’s always rewarding to see their growth,” he said.

Luke has quickly built meaningful relationships and enhanced various skills since starting employment at the school.
The school has been thoroughly impressed with Luke's work ethic, attitude, and the positive impact he’s had since starting his role.
Hallett Cove School said it’s eager to continue this collaboration and is open to expanding the relationship with Minda and offering further opportunities in the future.
Luke is thoroughly enjoying his time at the school, where he’s not only built valuable skills but also formed meaningful relationships.
As Luke embraces this exciting new chapter, he looks forward to the opportunities ahead, knowing the skills he’s gained will help him achieve even greater success.
