Minda has created a vision for the evolution of the Brighton site into an exciting new community concept.
The idea of a Master Plan for Minda’s Brighton site was conceived in 2007. Since then there has been significant discussion, consultation, collaboration and planning with various key groups, all contributing to the future of the 28 hectare site.
For Minda, the end goal has always been to create a high quality, integrated, affordable, sustainable urban village. This urban village will offer leading edge accommodation and services to South Australians with disability, which in turn will allow Minda to deliver support that is contemporary, individualised and tailored around each person’s wants, needs and aspirations.
Minda’s $260 + million Master Plan will include new accommodation, work and lifestyle options, green spaces, community facilities and retirement living.
In addition, a number of exciting design features, including the creation of a wetland area, amphitheater, community garden, coastal nursery, pedestrian friendly paths and integration with the coastal park.
About the site
The Brighton site is located 12km south west of the Adelaide CBD on King George Avenue, North Brighton, South Australia. It is bordered by Repton Road to the north, Gladstone Road to the south and sand dunes and beach to the west.
The site is approximately 28.5 hectares, with 500m of coastal frontage and 500m of frontage to King George Avenue. It is surrounded by low density housing, as well as Brighton Secondary School and Somerton Life Saving Club.
The current site characteristics include four State Heritage Listed buildings of mid to late Victorian era (which will be preserved), more than 100 significant trees and a large amount of open space. The adjacent primary coastal dunes are protected in a coastal conservation zone; this includes one of the last remaining sand dune formations along the Adelaide metropolitan foreshore.
The Brighton site is serviced by the local public bus system along King George Avenue, with bus stops in proximity.
