In 2009, Minda embarked on a journey to modernise practices and to empower the people we support. Moving from a traditional service delivery model to a contemporary approach, Minda adopted the guiding principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, putting choice into the hands of people with disabilities. As one of South Australia’s largest and most respected disability service providers, this was a real milestone in our long history.
Today, Minda supports around 1,800 people who have choice in where they want to work, how they want to spend their time, where they want to live, who they want to live with and how they want to live their life.
This is what we call Person-Centred Thinking, and it aligns with, not only the National Disability Insurance Scheme, but also Minda’s vision, for people with disability to live enriched lives of their choosing.
We have set in motion our Minda 2020 Strategic Plan, which is our road map to achieving our vision. For Minda it means broadening our focus from disability support, to embrace housing options, aged care and seniors living, social enterprise, education and training and consultancy and advocacy.
