Creative minds have an incredible ability to experiment, take risks, and, most importantly, have fun - just ask Scott.
Scott has been involved in the Visual Arts program for several years and has always had a wide imagination when it comes to exploring exciting ways to express himself artistically.
While he doesn’t create artwork to garner recognition, the various pieces he has made over the years have turned the heads of countless people in the program.
Suzanne Sloan, who has run the program for years, said Scott is “gifted” when it comes to expressing himself through art, and she is exploring ways for him to share his work with a wider audience.
She explained they are in the process of trying to enter a collection of Scott’s work into next year’s South Australian Living Arts (SALA) Festival.
Planning is a key part of any of Scott’s projects, with his mind focused on the task ahead days before he even begins.
“Scott is incredibly talented. He prepares several days before coming into the program—he brings his own resources from home,” Suzanne said.
“By the time the day ends, he will have already completed his artwork. He prioritises what he needs to do and completes his work efficiently.”
Whether it’s focusing on how long things will take to dry or how certain parts of his project will fit together, Scott plans everything down to the finest detail.
Some of the great pieces Scott has created include a realistic papier-mâché fish and chips, and a murder of crows sitting on a fence that fall when a ball is thrown at them - these projects can be seen in the images below.
Regardless of the project, the level of support he has received from friends and family has never wavered.
“Scott’s mother has been very supportive in us trying to display his work at next year’s SALA festival. We want to create a section for Scott where he handpicks his best works to showcase,” Suzanne said.
“I’ve been told that Scott’s room is full of his artwork—it might be hard for him to choose his best pieces of art.”
Motivated by his passion for creating impressive pieces of art, Scott is a great example of “anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
