With her vibrant, infectious and spontaneous personality helping lift everyone’s spirits, Fiona Smith is a deserving winner of our staff Values Award for COMMUNITY.

Discovering just five minutes before going on stage to collect her award that she had been nominated, Fiona says she is thankful of those who nominated her.

“There are lots of winners all over Minda who do a great job, but I was proud of myself for winning the award,” Fiona says.

“It means I must be doing my job well and people noticed the hard work I put in, but I would also like to say a huge thank you to Roze Gjergji, my work colleague, who I could not do my job without her hard work also.”

The thing I love most about my job is seeing residents happy, having a joke and a laugh because after all laughter is the best medicine.

As the Acting Lifestyle Co-ordinator at the Pat Kaufmann Centre, Fiona is pro-active in designing activity programs for clients, all done with a trademark smile.

“I make sure we meet the residents’ needs in Lifestyle, offering a range of activities, music, arts and crafts, sitting yoga, time spent in the garden, gentle massage, offering projects with purpose with every week working on different themes.

Fiona’s dedication has not gone unnoticed by family either, receiving another nomination from the brother of a PKC resident as she keeps him regularly informed by email of his sister’s.

His nomination read: “I think Fiona is one of a kind and reflects Minda’s values.”
